However, it got stuck on constrained skills and there were few gains in reading comprehension across the US. Not all research is equal. Not all research results transfer to classrooms. Reading is complicated. How do we study research collectively?
I love this question. I wonder about how much depends on context. Something works really well in one setting or a few and then folks apply it to all. The results don't always hold. I would love to see action research done across a number of settings. Might look like a collective approach.
Research that is outside a classroom is difficult to replicate in a classroom of 30 students. So is research only done by the creator or publisher of a program. Others believe that testimonials are research. Defining quality research is as critical as defining literacy.
